A violinist "Echel'' was cited with others in documents in the Coke papers at Harvard in connection with the Queen's Theatre in NovemberDecember 1710, and the same person, but with his name spelled "Igl,'' was one of the second violinists at the Queen's about 1711. An Eccles, identified as "Musician to His Grace, the Duke d'Aumont, Ambassador extraordinary from France," was given a benefit at Stationer's Hall on 15 May 1713, and that was very likely the younger Henry, who had thought himself neglected in England and who had gone to Paris sometime after 1710 to serve in the French King's band.

In his new office Eccles fulfilled his duties by composing music for New Year and birthday odes while continuing his prolific outpouring of theatre works. In March 1701 his music for Congreve's The Judgment of Paris was heard at the old Dorset Garden playhouse, but Eccles lost to John Weldon in the musical contest that was held and took the second prize of £50. After 1705 the rate of his theatrical composing diminished, but he continued writing music for court celebrations, for which he usually received special fees (in 171516 he was paid £22 for compositions for New Year's Day and the King's birthday, for instance).
