Everybody had been seated, and many were in jackets and ties. Holger Meins was one of them. I stood in the auditorium, looking for a seat. There was only one left, way in the back, next to a young man to whom I felt attracted in a mysterious sort of way. He was looking at me as I headed in his direction. He seemed very curious, very de manding, very alert, and very transparent, yet quite distant. He also was shy, a quality I would sense in him all through his life. But you never spoke to each other?
Rainer knew that. Our mutual attraction derived from my inner resistance to some, though not all, of his movies. And did you go back to the Film Academy? Through Peter Lilienthal I met so many interesting people who lived in Munich that I decided to move there, too. I shared a large apartment on Friedrichstrasse with Werner, Ingrid Caven, Magdalena Montezuma, and Ila von Hasperg.
