Canbazli, small church; east of Corycus; Takkadin; and perhaps the little Temple-Church were divided longitudinally into nave and aisles. In some of the `Domed Basilicas', particularly the Tomb Church at Corycus, this division is rendered less apparent by the presence of a transverse element across the west end of the church: such anomalies will be considered later. The division was in most cases effected by arcades supported on rows of columns. There were probably trabeated colonnades in three early churches (the Basilica at Dag at 20 THE EARLY BYZANTINE CHURCHES OF CILICIA AND ISAURIA Pazan and both churches at Yanikhan).
Syrian basilicas were not necessarily provided with nartheces, and it is likely that at first the churches in the Plain followed Syrian custom in this respect, whereas a narthex was included in the earliest Rough Cilician basilicas as a matter of course. The addition of nartheces to some of the basilicas in the Plain and the fact that they conformed to the Rough Cilician pattern suggests that, in architectural terms, Pedias came to follow Tracheia. It is likely, of course, that the Isaurian builders would have become involved in the construction of the churches in the Plain.
