Fred Libby died in Los Angeles, California, on 9 January 1970, having written a memoir in 1961 that was published in 2000 as Horses Don’t Fly. A second American two-seater ace, Roy Edward Dodds, was born in Buffalo, New York, on 19 July 1891. After joining the RFC in Canada he departed for Britain on 24 December 1917. He initially flew RE 8s with No 106 Sqn, but when that unit was posted to Ireland in May 1918 Dodds transferred to No 103 Sqn, a bomber unit equipped with DH 9s that was based at Forneuil at the time.

After rest leave he was posted to No 57 Sqn as a supernumerary flight leader in 1917, but circumstances soon altered his status. com A farmer born at Petersfield on 26 October 1898, George William Francis Darvill gained his flying certificate at Hendon on 13 July 1917. He was assigned to No 9 Sqn in October, but on 13 January 1918 he went to No 18 Sqn.
