The evidence seems to have come from orators. Though μεγαλοψυχέω does not now occur, it was evidently proved to mean 'to be haughty' as well as 'to be noble', cf. Hsch. 6338. 11 Β (deest ap. ) μεγαλοψυχία Μ: την μεγαλοψυχίαν (lacunam statuit Fresenius, qui hanc glossam post gl. 12 in M inventam hue transtulit).
