What is left in the ‘infinite play of signification’ is exactly that: play; a field in which ‘the ultimate’ and the ‘serious’ must be perpetually crosscut, bracketed by the absurd, the lunatic, by release, by not only dissolution but also innovation; alternately grave and ludic – swinging high, swinging low, turning all upside down – it is a state of eternal oscillation.
