Antibody-mediated immunity is called humoral immunity. B cells are found in the germinal centers of lymph nodes, the white pulp of the spleen, and the Peyer patches of the small intestine. B cells have IgM monomers as surface receptors and can recognize free antigen. This recognition activates B cells to proliferate into a clone of plasma cells, each making the antibodies that the B cell was genetically preprogrammed to produce.
