At the evidentiary hearings in 2011, again Long presented expert testimony that he was brain damaged and that he did not understand the consequences of the plea. By order entered November 29, 2011, Judge Susan Sexton rejected these claims. This case is currently pending before the Florida Supreme Court on appeal. This is the only remaining death sentence. If and when the state court affirms the death sentence, the federal courts will review the sentence, lengthening the process by several more years.
